LIP GLOSS, CHECK.

Hair brushed, check.

Mental pep-talk with the mirror… on it:

Huxley is awesome.

Your brain picked him, remember?

This has — had — nothing to do with the pitter patter of your heart.

Well, maybe just a little.

Everything in moderation, right?

This could be step one toward the end goal.

He has every potential of being the one whose page remains untouched in the Little Pink Book at the end.

And seriously.

He.

Is.

Hot.

He won’t be pushy — at least all signs point to that; he seems to genuinely care and want you. As a bonus, tonight he won’t taste like alcohol.

Okay, Lainie, you’ve got this.

After a final nod at my reflection, the time comes to head back out into the now completely filled restaurant. Unfortunately, the added noise of more patrons jangles against my nerves as I make my way out to the deck.

Huxley is sitting at the wide, bar top style railing with my flowers resting on the empty stool beside him, holding the seat for me.

Keeping my purse on and quickly tucking my skirt with one hand so as not to flash the entire restaurant, I then grasp the stems and curve my opposite fingers over his shoulder for leverage to slip in beside him.

He angles toward me, flashes a smile, and slides over two plates topped with sweet goodness. “Hope you like Thai Rotis. Unsure what you like, I ordered the strawberry-vanilla and the chocolate-banana.”

“Both. Can I have both?” I request with a groan, placing the flowers on the railing.

He chuckles. “Sweet tooth, huh?”

“Oh, yes. Like you wouldn’t believe. Donuts are my main weakness, though.”

Huxley motions at all of the food. “Ladies first, I will just eat around you.”

Oohhh… that… sounded… dirty.

Reining in my shifty eyes and awkward chuckle, I lift the fork and scoop up a piece of the chocolate-banana first, bringing up my free hand to catch any that falls in case it tries to unravel and slide off the prongs while shoveling it into my mouth.

Eyes popping open wide and hand darting to cover my mouth so as not to flash any chewed food, I exclaim, “Oh, my God, this is so good.”

Huxley forks up his own piece with a grin and the bounce of his eyebrows, clearly enjoying the delicacy just as much.

Etiquette aside, I place the fork down and choose to go with my fingers instead, since using a utensil did nothing to help keep the layers intact for the perfect bite.

The strawberry-vanilla is next, and it does not disappoint. Hand once again covering my mouth, I point at the second plate and mumble, “This one is really good, too.”

Chuckling, Huxley reaches for another chocolate-banana bite. “Sorry, what was that?”

“This one is really good, too.” I repeat with a smile, after swallowing and dropping my hand.

Huxley moves his hand over to the strawberry one, but then he glances up at me, eyes dropping to my lips. Without warning, he leans in for a kiss, tongue sweeping through and stealing my breath away.

“You’re right, it does taste really good,” he whispers.
